A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test that is used to assess your overall health and to diagnose a variety of illnesses, such as anaemia, infection, and leukaemia. A complete blood count test assesses numerous aspects of your blood, including red blood cells, which transport oxygen.
Make sure to wear a shirt with short sleeves or sleeves that can be easily rolled up. Before a CBC, you can usually eat and drink normally. Your doctor may, however, require that you fast for a certain period of time before the test. If the blood sample will be utilised for further testing, this is usual.
Anemia, autoimmune disorders, bone marrow disorders, dehydration, infections, inflammation, leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplastic syndrome, sickle cell disease, thalassemia, nutritional deficiencies (e.g., iron, B12, or folate), and other diseases are among the most common diseases detected by a CBC.
This test can determine the extent of your liver damage and whether you require a liver transplant.
Signs, symptoms, test results, illness, or disease associated with leukaemia, infections or inflammatory processes, suspected bone marrow failure or bone marrow infiltrate, suspected myeloproliferative, myelodysplastic, or lymphoproliferative disorders are all examples of specific indications for CBC with differential count related to the WBC.
