Acute promyelocytic leukemia
With 2-year event-free survival rates of 75–84 percent, APL is now considered a very curable disease. APL is associated with a high rate of early mortality, which is typically linked to hemorrhagic consequences. Early death (ED) due to bleeding occurred in up to 26% of patients prior to ATRA therapy.
APL patients go through one cycle of induction therapy, which lasts 28 to 60 days. The length of the cycle is determined by the patient's reaction to treatment, which is assessed on Day 29 by a bone marrow examination. Your youngster will take all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) orally during induction therapy (by mouth)
