Frequently Asked Questions about Vitamin Profile

The Complete Vitamin Profile test is a multidisciplinary package that includes tests for both fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins to detect vitamin deficiencies or excesses that your body needs to reduce health risks, improve immunity, and preserve overall health.

When it comes to vitamins, here are five questions to think about. Have any health warnings or sanctions been issued as a result of the product? Has the product undergone independent testing? Is it possible that the product is too good to be true? Is there proof that the supplement delivers on its claims? Is it truly necessary for me to take supplements?

Anemia can be detected and diagnosed via blood tests. A Complete Blood Count (CBC) with Differential and a Total Iron Binding Capacity are frequently included in these assays (TIBC). If you have anemia, you can take iron and vitamin B supplements to help you feel better.

Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Beta Carotene, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B6, B12, and Folate, Vitamin C, Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy, Vitamin K1, Ferritin, Iron with TIBC (total iron binding capacity), and Zinc are all measured in this test.

The most common dietary deficiency in the world, iron insufficiency (ID), is a well-known cause of hair loss.

Vitamins A, B1, B6, B9(Folic Acid), B12, C, D, E, and K1 are included in the Vitamins Blood Test Panel. Fasting for 12 hours is essential for preparation. Take no vitamin C supplements, fruits, or alcohol for at least 24 hours before the collection, and no biotin for at least 72 hours.

Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and maintain strong bones throughout your entire life. Your body produces vitamin D when the sun’s UV rays contact your skin. Other good sources of the vitamin include fish, eggs, and fortified dairy products. It’s also available as a dietary supplement.

Vitamin D must go through several processes in your body before your body can use it. The first transformation occurs in the liver. Here, your body converts vitamin D to a chemical known as 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

The 25-hydroxy vitamin D test is the best way to monitor vitamin D levels. The amount of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in your blood is a good indication of how much vitamin D your body has. The test can determine if your vitamin D levels are too high or too low.

Why is a 25-hydroxy vitamin D test done?

Those who are at high risk of having low levels of vitamin D include:

  • people who don’t get much exposure to the sun
  • older adults
  • people with obesity
  • babies who are breastfed only (formula is usually fortified with vitamin D)
  • people who have had gastric bypass surgery
  • people who have a disease that affects the intestines and makes it difficult for the body to absorb nutrients

How is the 25-hydroxy vitamin D test performed?

Your doctor will tell you not to eat anything for four to eight hours before the test.

The 25-hydroxy vitamin D test requires a common blood test. Your healthcare provider will draw blood from a vein in your arm using a needle. A quick finger prick will more than likely provide enough for a blood sample in children and infants.
